Homebrew is unpasturized, whereas commercial breweries must pasturize their product before it hits the shelves. The extreme heat required to sanitize beer destroys the yeast and carbonation involved in the brewing process. Breweries force carbonate their beer after the process and before bottling. You can imagine the result...something (like taste) is lost.

Homebrewed beer is unpasturized, and naturally carbonated. The yeast is still there, supplying lots of B-Vitamins. Most importantly, so is all the flavor. It's how beer has tasted for centuries. Long before mass production.

Homebrewing is fun, easy, and not so expensive a hobby as you might imagine. I'll show you just how easy it is in future posts.

It Started Last Christmas

Every Christmas, I'm guaranteed to receive great gifts from my wife, Jenny. Sometimes I get cool books, or expensive whiskey, or a new down-filled jacket. Last Christmas, she surprised me with a Mr. Beer Home Brewing Kit. I was excited, nonetheless and very soon afterward I embarked on a new hobby.

Now, three batches into my newly acquired "craft", I'm still excited, and I'm ready share my experiences with anyone else willing to try their hand at this fun pastime.
